Nicholas Elliott

About Me

  • I began playing chess at the age of 5 through my primary school chess club and was lucky enough to be coached by an International Master. Since then chess has become my passion.
  • I have represented my primary school, secondary school, sixth form and university on board one in all tournaments.
  • I have also been an active member of Richmond and Hammersmith chess clubs.

Lessons

  • In my 6 years of teaching chess, I have taught chess camps with up to 20 children as well as one-to-one private lessons for all ages and levels.
  • I am rated 2500 for rapid on Lichess, placing me in the top 200 on the platform.
  • My goal is to create a positive learning environment and unique connection with each one of my students to maximise engagement, enjoyment, and progress.
  • For most chess players, the biggest hurdle isn’t their lack of knowledge-it’s their thought process. Along with teaching new material, I put extra emphasis on developing the right thinking methods, ensuring that players can effectively apply their knowledge.
  • I dedicate the first half of the lesson to teaching new concepts which is followed by exercises to implement the above theory into practice.
  • My lessons consist of practicing middlegame strategy, theoretical endgames, going over tactical and positional puzzles, calculation techniques, and opening preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you set any homework?

I encourage my students to play at least 1 game of rapid/classical chess before our next lesson so they can implement what they have learned into their games. It also gives us the opportunity to analyse the game together and learn from any mistakes. I set additional puzzles to students who have time and want to do more.

How do online lessons work?

My lessons are done via Google Meet where I share my screen and teach using Lichess.

Can I get help preparing for a tournament?

Of course! I’m here to help with everything. This includes creating and reinforcing a winning mentality.

Where can I see some of your Chess?

You can follow my social media to see me play chess either live on twitch or through short videos on Tiktok.

Is there a free trial available?

Yes, you can book a free 30 min lesson.
